Російські війська intensifying their efforts to encircle Pokrovsk, a crucial Ukrainian logistical hub supporting operations in the Donbas. This is revealed in a military intelligence report from the British Ministry of Defence on August 2nd, as reported by “European Truth”.
Over the past week, British analysts note gradual advances by Russian forces to the north-east of Pokrovsk, attempting to bypass and disrupt its logistical routes and ground communication lines. They have advanced westwards along the H-32 highway, particularly towards Rodinsky, which is a primary northern supply route for Pokrovsk. Russian forces have also gained territory south of the highway, progressing in the area of Mirolyubovka.
Open sources from July 22, 2025, reported Russian diversionary and reconnaissance groups attempting to infiltrate the southern part of Pokrovsk, followed by Ukrainian operations to clear the area. Pokrovsk has been a priority for Russia since February 2024, following the capture of Avdiivka. Russian efforts against the fortified city have cost Russia significant losses in manpower and equipment.
Estonian intelligence observes that Russian forces in Pokrovsk are employing tactics similar to those used previously in Vuhledar and Avdiivka. President Donald Trump stated on August 1st that Russia had lost over 112,000 soldiers since the beginning of the year in the war against Ukraine.
